The idea of a significantly longer or even indefinite lifespan might be considered impossible today – but airplanes, vaccines and computers that were all considered “impossible” ideas less than a century ago are now everyday features of modern life. We firmly believe that with the incredible advances being made in nanotechnology, medicine and science today, cryonics has the same potential to become an everyday reality in the not-so-distant future.
 ……
The concept of “Cryonics” or “Cryonic Suspension” was introduced in 1962 by the Founder of the Cryonics Institute, Robert Ettinger, in his landmark book “The Prospect of Immortality“.  The essential concept involves quickly cooling a recently deceased person to liquid nitrogen temperatures in order to keep their body preserved indefinitely. The ultimate goal is to keep the person perfectly suspended until future science is able to repair or replace vital tissues and ultimately revive the patient.
 ……
The cryonics organization founded by Robert Ettinger, “The Father of Cryonics”.
Why choose CI? Our founder is the Father of Cryonics himself, Robert Ettinger, who created the Cryonics Institute specifically for the purpose of providing cryonics services to its members. CI is the only cryonics organization with no debt, no stockholders, and no landlords.
 ……
Our prices are lower than any other organization — in fact, the most affordable prices anywhere in the world. This isn’t surprising, it’s simply keeping with our self-interest membership philosophy to provide ourselves reliable cryonic services at a reasonable and affordable cost. If we were to raise prices, we’d only be charging ourselves more.
 ……
Our minimum whole-body suspension fee is $28,000. (For members at a distance, transportation costs and local help will be additional.) Our $28,000 fee is a one-time only payment, with no subsequent charges. It’s easily funded by insurance or other means, [FUNDING LINK] and funds the best care available for our member patients. (For last-minute cases, where the patient was not signed up beforehand, we ordinarily charge $35,000 rather than $28,000, if arrangements can be worked out at all.)
 ……
Does that lower fee mean lower quality patient care or services? Absolutely not. The major part of other organizations’ fees are earmarked for investment provisions totally unrelated to patient care and preparation. Specific methods and research may differ slightly, but overall we believe our procedures and policies give a better chance for patient survival, as well as explicitly providing for financial, social and other arrangements for future revival than any other organization’s.

Whole Body/Neuro Options. The term neuropreservation (or “neuro”) generally refers to the practice of cryopreserving only the head rather than the whole body. Keeping the whole head to preserve the brain is convenient for both perfusion and storage (the skull protects the brain). In some cases, however, “neuros” are brain-only.
The Cryonics Institute has a policy against signing-up CI Members for neuropreservation — all CI Members with human cryopreservation arrangments are “whole body”.

What is Cryonics?

Cryonics is an effort to save lives by using temperatures so cold that a person beyond help by today’s medicine might be preserved for decades or centuries until a future medical technology can restore that person to full health.

Cryonics sounds like science fiction, but is based on modern science. It’s an experiment in the most literal sense of the word. The question you have to ask yourself is this: would you rather be in the experimental group, or the control group?

 ……
Vitrification (not freezing) can preserve biological structure very well. Adding high concentrations of chemicals called cryoprotectants to cells permits tissue to be cooled to very low temperatures with little or no ice formation. The state of no ice formation at temperatures below -120°C is called vitrification. It is now possible to physically vitrify organs as large as the human brain, achieving excellent structural preservation without freezing.
 ……
Currently Alcor patients are stored under liquid nitrogen at a temperature of -196°C. The liquid nitrogen is held in vacuum-insulated dewars that require replenishment every few weeks. Liquid nitrogen is used because it is inexpensive and reliable.

Alcor is currently experimenting with an alternative “vapor phase” storage system that would retain the safety and reliability advantages of liquid nitrogen, but allow patients to be maintained at controlled temperatures warmer than liquid nitrogen. This will reduce or eliminate fracturing injury.

 ……
Methods for repairing structure at the molecular level can now be foreseen. The emerging science of nanotechnology will eventually lead to devices capable of extensive tissue repair and regeneration, including repair of individual cells one molecule at a time. This future nanomedicine could theoretically recover any preserved person in which the basic brain structures encoding memory and personality remain intact.
 ……
Today brain tissue preserved with a modern vitrification solution shows virtually no freezing damage. Whole neurons are visible with intact membranes and well defined structure. This is the excellent brain preservation which Alcor can now achieve in human patients. Most “experts” who complain about damage caused by cryonics procedures are unaware that such preservation is now possible.
 ……
Failing to consider the issue of standby, both local and remote, may be a very serious error. We may be doing a real disservice to ourselves by not increasing our minimums to accommodate what we know are likely to be realistic charges for this service. This is a difficult decision to make, since each time we raise the minimums we know that some people, particularly the elderly and the already terminally ill, will be excluded.

The addition of standby charges with a reasonable margin for “error” would result in a figure of $15,000 being added to the base cost for both whole-body suspension and neurosuspension. This would yield adjusted minimums of $55,000 for neurosuspension and $155,000 for whole body suspension.

 ……
I. Required Cryopreservation Funding Minimums: Before membership approval can be granted, Alcor requires the Member to guarantee a certain level of funding which will be paid to Alcor upon the legal death of the Member to support Comprehensive Member Standby (CMS), in addition to the cryopreservation, long-term care, and, if it becomes possible, resuscitation of the Member. (See Cryopreservation Agreement, Section I, DUTIES OF THE MEMBER, Article 4.) Current minimum funding levels are:

Minimum Cryopreservation Funding:

  • $200,000.00 Whole Body Cryopreservation ($115,000 to the Patient Care Trust, $60,000 for cryopreservation, $25,000.00 to the CMS Fund).
  • $ 80,000.00 Neurocryopreservation ($25,000 to the Patient Care Trust, $30,000 for cryopreservation, $25,000.00 to the CMS Fund).
 ……
……
Contract surgeons work to gain access to major blood vessels. At this point, the patient is typically at a temperature of 60°F or lower. This permits blood circulation to be stopped for a limited time without harming the brain. Sterile technique is utilized.
 ……
Once vascular access is established, the patient will be connected to a perfusion machine that replaces blood with a chemical solution that prevents ice formation.
 ……
A technician prepares the cryoprotectant solution perfusion circuit. The wires behind the plastic tubing are used for electronic monitoring and data collection.
 ……
A bank of heart-lung machine roller pumps (below) circulate cryoprotectant solution into the patient in gradually increasing concentration. A computer system (above) monitors and collects temperature, pressure, and cryoprotectant concentration data during this four hour procedure.
 ……
A technician checks lines connected to electronic devices that measure cryoprotectant concentration (refractometers).
 ……
A final manual check of the refractive index of the cryoprotectant solution verifies that the concentration is sufficient for vitrification (deep cooling without freezing).
 ……
The patient is now transferred from the operating room to the cooldown facility, where cooling to -130°C takes place under computer control. The result of this process is “vitrification” (solidification without freezing).
 ……
Following vitrification, neuropatients are placed in individual aluminum containers.

Tanggal 28 Desember 2013 Paris Hilton yang sedang bermain ski di kota Aspen, Colorado, kirim tweet berupa “Killing it on the mountain”. Kata “kill” sering digunakan Paris kalau mengungkapkan sesuatu yang seru. Misalkan ketika nonton show dari kelompok asal Norwegia yaitu Ylvis pada akhir November 2013 yang lalu, komentar dia adalah “@Ylvis @Bylvisaker & @Vegardino just killed in on stage at #2013MAMA Awards”.

Cuma beda sehari setelah aku tweet ke Paris Hilton yang sedang ski di Aspen, soal “then bring to the cryonics……”.
